I would like to start collecting - What titles do you recommend?

“I would like to start collecting. I have an interest in economics, business and mystery writers. I would like to start with something affordable and am considering Lee Child and Michael Connelly. I have budgeted about $100 per month to start and would like to buy the best editions available given my budget. Are you able to suggest a few titles each month or is it best just to check your site every few weeks and purchase myself.” (J. Conway, Vancouver BC)

John responds….

With Connelly and Child you have not only identified two of my favorites, but also two of the nicest guys in the business. Michael Connelly’s first book, Black Echo, introduced us to Harry Bosch, and won The Edgar for first book.  And Lee Child’s first, The Killing Floor, started Jack Reacher on a twelve book long thrill ride.
All of their titles are still affordable, with a good prospect of appreciation. Connelly’s upcoming book, The Brass Verdict, promises to be very big. Lee Child has just released Nothing To Lose to excellent fan response. In addition to these two authors you may want to consider, Vince Flynn, James Rollins, Steve Berry, Ridley Pearson, Steve Hunter, and John Sandford to name a few. Welcome to the world of the “biblioholic.” VJ Books is a qualified treatment center! - John

Booked To Die by John Dunning

I was hoping that you could help me with a few facts about John Dunning’s book - Booked to Die.  I see it listed as first edition with two different publishers, Simon and Schuster and Scribner.  Are these two from the same publisher?  I see the same ISBN number listed with both.  I would like to know who published the true first edition of the book and what the ISBN number should be. Also, what should I expect to pay for a first edition, fine/fine signed?   (Karen, Alaska)

Term Limits by Vince Flynn

Please help me with a question I have about one Vince Flynn book. Title is Term Limits, It says copyright 1997, it also says First Atria Books hardcover edition November 2004.  It has a red dust cover and all the numbers like 10 thru 1 are present. I know the original came out in 1997 or 8, just what was the original first printing, first edition? What color dust cover did it have and what book company came out with it. What do I have with the red dust cover? Thank you, I have bought three VF books from you with complete satisfaction and now looking for Transfer of Power next. (Ted, Alabama)

John responds…. The hardcover “true first” of Term Limits by Vince Flynn was printed in August 1997 (ISBN: 0-9658510-0-1 / 978-0-9658510-0-8 (USA edition)).  The publisher was Cloak & Dagger Press, Incorporated, and it was a small run/independant press.  It was reprinted in June 1998 (ISBN: 0-671-02317-9 / 978-0-671-02317-1 (USA edition)) by Atria Press and this edition is technically a “first thus.”  It was again reprinted by Atria in November 2004, (ISBN: 0-7432-7502-0 / 978-0-7432-7502-6 (USA edition)), again, a “first thus.”

As for Transfer of Power, we have a nice signed copy in stock.
