Clive Cussler’s The Navigator is a “good first experience” for VJ Books fan

A Book Review from David!

This book was my first Clive Cussler novel, and I really liked the way he went about telling the story.  I had been told that all of his books are regarding end of the world type scenarios, and this one was no different.  Although to me it seemed a bit of a reach, it was a good plot point nonetheless.

As it was my first exposure to his storytelling I was unsure what I would find, but I found did like the action/adventure mixed with suspense style of writing.

I will definitely purchase more Cussler books in the near future.  Thanks John/Virginia

VJ Books Now Offers the Opportunity to Pre-Order Signed Limited Editions of Robert McCammon’s Mister Slaughter

VJ Books is now accepting pre-orders of Mister Slaughter in a striking limited edition (274 copies), signed by Robert McCammon, fully bound in leather and housed in a custom slipcase.

Mister Slaughter is at once a classic portrait of an archetypal serial killer and an exquisitely detailed account of a fledgling nation still in the process of inventing itself. Suspenseful, illuminating, never less than compulsively readable, it is, by any measure, an extraordinary achievement, the largest accomplishment to date from one of our most gifted—and necessary—writers.

“Murder and ghoulish mayhem are the order of the day in bestseller McCammon’s colorful third thriller featuring problem-solver Matthew Corbett and his escapades in early 18th-century America” – Publisher’s Weekly.

The Library Journal says of Mister Slaughter “Fans of dark historicals will enjoy this thrill ride, but they should be ready for some heavy-handed violence with a balance of historical context and intrigue.”

Robert McCammon received the 2008 Grand Master Award from the World Horror Convention on March 29, 2008.

The publisher, Subterranean Press, has already put the first edition trade hardcover out of print.  John Hutchinson, co-founder of VJ Books, said that he expects the limited edition to sell out quickly from his website, www.vjbooks.com.

Stephen White’s psycho-thriller pleases again

A Book Review by Nikki!

Dr. Alan Gregory isn’t perfect. He’s not quirky or eccentric. He’s just a normal guy whose job places him in the midst of other people’s issues, both psychological and physiological. This story finds him closely involved with a family who has two children knocking at death’s door. Knowing what that feels like firsthand only made Alan’s plight  more realistic to me.

Caught up in insurance red tape and the bureaucratic methodology of rubber-stamping claims, motive is certainly present when the founder of a major insurance company is found murdered. Alan must find out how this murder intertwines with his patient to save her from herself as well as from being accused of murder. How far does one family go to protect each other by sacrificing themselves?

For those of you who enjoy the Alan Gregory series, you won’t be disappointed. For those of you who are first-timers, this book can easily be read as a stand-alone novel.

VJ Books Offering Autographed copies of IMPACT by Bestselling Author Douglas Preston

Douglas Preston, best known for his collaborations with Lincoln Child, has penned his 10th solo novel, IMPACT.  Preston has been called “the new and improved Michael Crichton” by International bestseller Tess Gerrritsen.  In IMPACT, Preston brings his popular character Wyman Ford, last seen in 2008’s Blasphemy, back for another round of adventure. The fast-paced tale weaves together three separate plot points, uniting them in one explosive conclusion.  Lee Child, author of the bestselling Jack Reacher novels, calls IMPACTfull of huge ideas, but intensely human, too, and intensely suspenseful.”

Wyman Ford is tapped for a secret expedition to Cambodia to locate the source of strangely beautiful gemstones that do not appear to be of this world.  While he searches for the origin of these dangerous jewels, a young woman in Maine borrows her father’s boat to search the outer islands for the meteorite that lit up the sky in her small town. Meanwhile, a scientist at the National Propulsion Facility discovers an inexplicable source of gamma rays in the outer Solar System. The scientist is found decapitated, the data missing. Ford soon realizes the jewel mine he seeks is much more than it seem and is strangely connected to the events happening on the other side of the world.

“Both Doug and Lincoln had been good friends to VJ Books over the years,” said VJ Books co-founder, John Hutchinson, “and we are always excited when one of them writes a new novel.” IMPACT will be no exception, with autographed copies shipping in late January/early February. VJ Books’ long-standing relationship with Mr. Preston has resulted in an ample backlist inventory of many of his independently written novels, as well as those co-penned with Lincoln Child, which are available at www.vjbooks.com.

DOUGLAS PRESTON is the co-author, with Lincoln Child, of the famed Pendergast series of novels, including such bestselling titles as The Book of the Dead and The Wheel of Darkness, as well as The Relic. His solo novels include Jennie, and the New York Times bestsellers Tyrannosaur Canyon and Blasphemy.

Preston is a Research Associate at the Laboratory of Anthropology in Santa Fe, a member of PEN New Mexico, and a board member of the School of American Research in Santa Fe. He counts in his ancestry the poet Emily Dickinson, the newspaperman Horace Greeley, and the infamous murderer and opium addict Amasa Greenough. Preston and his wife, Christine, have three children, Selene, Aletheia, and Isaac. They live on the coast of Maine.
