Tualatin, Oregon – May 8, 2012 – In the first volume of a planned trilogy, Michael McGarrity takes a slightly different approach to his Kevin Kearney mysteries as he traces the long history of the Kearney family starting in 1875 as John Kearney settles on the plains of west Texas with hopes and plans to build his Double K Ranch. Spanning the years 1875 to 1918, Hard Country is as much about the expansion of a nation as it is about the search for love, lost family, and new beginnings in harsh, sun-scorched lands.

Hard Country is a richly authentic adventure of rough-hewn men and courageous women set in the frontier of the American Southwest, an epic story that rings of the tradition of the great Western novel with historically accurate depictions of range wars, Indian raids, cattle rustling, rough justice, long-standing feuds, murder, and the final closing of the frontier.

About Michael McGarrity

Michael McGarrity is the author of the Kevin Kearny mystery series that started with the publication of his first novel Tularosa in 1996, nominated for an Anthony Award. A former Sante Fe County deputy sheriff, McGarrity is a bestselling author and the recipient of numerous awards including the 2004 New Mexico Governor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts.

Press Release

April 1, 2012 – Tualatin, OR – Stuart Woods releases the next riveting installment in the Stone Barrington series, “Unnatural Acts”, on April 17, 2012.

In his thirty-seven year career, New York Times bestselling author Stuart Woods has published a memoir, a travel book and over 40 novels. He now has twenty-nine consecutive New York Times best sellers in hardback and returns in top form with his latest Stone Barrington novel, “Unnatural Acts”.

About Unnatural Acts

When a hedge fund billionaire hires Stone Barrington to talk some sense into his wayward son, it seems like an easy enough job; no one knows the hidden sins and temptations of the ultra-wealthy better than Stone. But as Stone and his erstwhile protégé, Herbie Fisher, probe deeper into the case—and an old one comes back to haunt him—he realizes that even he may have underestimated just how far some people will go to cover up their crimes…and plan new ones.

From Manhattan’s mahogany-paneled law offices to its dimly lit night clubs and modern penthouse lofts, the trail of entrapment and murder leads to a shocking act that no one could ever have anticipated.

About Stuart Woods

Stuart Woods was born in Manchester, Georgia and graduated from the University of Georgia with a BA in sociology. Woods began his writing career in the advertising industry while living in England and Ireland. An enthusiastic sailor, he decided to compete in the 1976 Observer Singlehanded Transatlantic Race (OSTA) and finished in the middle of the fleet.

The next couple of years were spent in Georgia, writing two non-fiction books: “Blue Water, Green Skipper” which was an account of his Irish experience and the transatlantic race, and “A Romantic’s Guide to the Country Inns of Britain and Ireland”, which was a travel book.

Woods finished writing “Chiefs”– his debut novel–eight years after starting it. “Chiefs” was published in 1981 and established Woods as a novelist. The book won the Edgar Allan Poe prize from the Mystery Writers of America, and he was later nominated again for Palindrome. Woods was also awarded France’s Prix de Literature Policiere for “Imperfect Strangers”. He has since written over 40 novels and has 29 straight bestsellers on the Times hardcovers list.

In addition to the Stone Barrington series, his other series include: The Will Lee series, the Holly Barker series, the Rick Barron series, and the Ed Eagle series.

Woods lives in Florida, Maine, and New York.

ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER BY SETH GRAHAME-SMITH

When bestselling books find their way to the big screen, collectors clamor to their favorite bookstores looking for that 1st edition missing from their shelves. Prices usually are pushed into the stratosphere. We all know the history of books like The Godfather, The Da Vinci Code, The Help, Absolute Power, The Hunt For Red October, Get Shorty, The Color Purple, Jurassic Park, The Firm, Silence of the Lambs, The Kite Runner, K-Pax, Mystic River, The World According to Garp, and many more. Wouldn’t we all like a signed first of these and others?

Here’s an opportunity to take a chance on Hollywood’s next big hit. On June 22nd, 20th Century Fox – in association with Tim Burton -brings Seth Grahame-Smith’s bestseller, Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter to a theater near you.

When we learned of this, we checked our stock and were disappointed to find that we only had a couple of copies left. With market prices already pushed to over $100, what could we do? Fortunately, we located a few unopened signed cartons tucked away at the publisher and quickly grabbed them. We are offering them at our original price . . . first come, first served. Please – limit 3 to a customer.

Their unique ability to combine inside knowledge of the brutal reality of criminal life with searing social criticism in complex, intelligent plots has put them at the forefront of modern Scandinavian crime writing. Three Seconds was awarded the Swedish Academy of Crime Writers’ Award for Swedish Crime Novel of the Year, previously won by both Stieg Larsson and Henning Mankell, and it was a top 10 best seller in Sweden for eight months.

Sullivan’s Rogue. My copy is a UK release (the US comes out in October). I bring this up to once again recommend Mark. He just signed several titles for us, and I can personally recommend them all, especially his last, Triple Cross. I agree with Robert Crais who said,” Triple Cross is a smart, prescient thriller that makes one wonder why the bottom really dropped out of the stock market. The story snaps and twists like a cracking whip, you can’t help but root for Mickey Hennessey and his kids, and I defy you to guess the ending. Mark T. Sullivan has written a super-charged bestseller and surefire motion picture!” Mark also just penned James Patterson’s Private Games . . . Sullivan signed copies now in stock.

Wondering what to read next? Move Helpless and Triple Cross to the top of your list. You will not be disappointed.

<Once again Alex Berenson does not disappoint and provides another wonderful edition to this series. He is called in to investigate potential trouble within the CIA ranks in Afghanistan. Any fan of this series will whip through this book which is my favorite since The Silent Man. I highly recommend this novel to anyone interested in yet another wonderful tale of John Wells, the CIA, and ‘current’ events in Afghanistan. Alex is arguably the best writer in the ‘spy’ rogue agent genre.

New York Times bestselling author Michael Palmer has hit international bestseller lists for each book he’s ever written. He returns in top form with his 17th medical suspense novel, Oath of Office. Compelling, engaging, and with in-depth characters, Oath of Office is sure to please.

What if a well respected doctor inexplicably goes on a murderous rampage?

When Dr. John Meacham goes on a shooting spree the office, his business partner, staff, and two patients are killed in the bloodbath. Then Meacham turns the gun on himself.

The blame falls on Dr. Lou Welcome. Welcome worked with Meacham years before as a counselor after John’s medical license had been revoked for drug addiction. Lou knew that John was an excellent doctor and deserved to be practicing medicine and fought hard for his license to be restored. After hearing the news of the violent outburst, Lou is in shock like everyone else, but mostly he’s incredulous. And when he begins to look into it further, the terrifying evidence he finds takes him down a path to an unspeakable conspiracy that seems to lead directly to the White House and those in the highest positions of power.

About Michael Palmer

In Pelecanos’s newest book, What It Was, it is 1972 and Derek Strange has recently left the D.C. police force and set up shop as a private investigator. His former partner, Frank “Hound Dog” Vaughn is still on the force. Helping a new client recover a ring of some sentimental value, Strange steps into Vaughn’s case, where a local druggie has been murdered.

Soon both Strange and Vaughn are in hot pursuit of a cold-blooded killer known on the street as ‘Red Fury,” so called for his looks and the car his girlfriend drives. Red Fury doesn’t care who he has to kill – or cross – to get what he wants, and as the violence grows and the stakes get higher, strange and Vaughn know that the only way to catch their man is to do it ‘their way.’
