VJ Books was honored to have attended the Annual Thrillerfest held in New York.  “We look forward to upcoming events where authors, fans and booksellers can meet to talk about great reading!” offered Ms. Lenneville about the July 2009 event.  David Morrell was honored as 2009 Thrillermaster.  Brad Meltzer, long-time friend of VJ Books was honored with the Silver Bullet Award.

Norwood Press Announces First Edition, First Printing Limited Edition Chapbook Signed by Both Blake Crouch and Jack Kilborn

“Beyond a thrilling piece of horrifying suspense the Serial novella is also a groundbreaking experiment in literary collaboration” reports John Hutchinson, of Norwood Press.

Jack Kilborn (a pseudonym of bestselling author J.A. Konrath, whose most recent release is Cherrybomb) wrote the first part. Blake Crouch (Abandon) wrote the second. They collaborated on the third together over email in 100-word exchanges, not aware of each other’s opening section. “All bets were off, and may the best psycho win” said Hutchinson from his office in the Portland, Oregon suburb of Tualatin.

Serial contains the novella, “Serial”, a Q & A with Kilborn and Crouch, author bibliographies, and excerpts from their most recent and forthcoming work, Kilborn’s Afraid and Crouch’s Abandon.

Rambo creator David Morrell (Shimmer) called Abandon one of the best books he’d ever read.

The signed, “Serial: novella is offered for $9.99 at http://www.vjbooks.com/Crouch-Kilborn-Konrath-Serial-p/croseri01.htm. Quantities are limited.

The Shimmer is riveting suspense by David Morrell

When a high-speed chase goes terribly wrong, Santa Fe police officer Dan Page watches in horror as a car and gas tanker explode into flames. Torn with guilt that he may be responsible, Page returns home to discover that his wife, Tori, has disappeared.

Frantic, Page follows her trail to Rostov, a remote town in Texas famous for a massive astronomical observatory, a long-abandoned military base, and unexplained nighttime phenomena that drew onlookers from every corner of the globe. Many of these gawkers – Tori among them – are compelled to visit this tiny community to witness the mysterious Rostov Lights.

Without warning, a gunman begins firing on the lights, screaming ‘Go back to hell where you came from,’ then turns his rifle on the bystanders. A bloodbath ensues, and events quickly spiral out of control, setting the stage for even greater violence and death.

Page must solve the mystery of the Rostov Lights to save his wife. In the process, he learns that the decaying military base may not be abandoned at all, and that the government may have known about the lights for decades. Could these phenomena be more dangerous than anyone could have possibly imagined?

David Morrell talks about Rambo Off-Broadway

(davidmorrell.net, Apr 2009, David Morrell)

MORE ABOUT RAMBO OFF-BROADWAY

Last month, I mentioned that Rambo and my novel FIRST BLOOD are the subject of an off-Broadway play called RAMBO SOLO that is currently being performed in New York City.  It’s a one-character monologue in which Zachary Oberzan pretends to be in his 242-square-foot apartment while telling the audience about his obsession with my1972 novel and the1982 film adaptation.  For 90 minutes, he discusses the differences between the two and describes what he thinks would be the ideal film adaptation.  Reviewers were extremely enthusiastic about the energy, enthusiasm, and creativity of the show as well as the quality of the performer.

David Morrell – The Shimmer

David Morrell‘s next novel, THE SHIMMER, will be published in July 2009.  “It’s my longest book in a while—an epical action/suspense story that’s set in the present but features scenes from 1889, 1916, 1945, 1956, and 1980.  The main character is a policeman who’s a private pilot (hence the flight training I’m taking).  There’s also a strong military special-ops element—not to mention a mass murder and a government conspiracy that dates back to the early years of the twentieth century, involving mysterious events in Texas that are based on real occurrences. Much of the book was inspired by fact” says David.
