I am a huge fan of book series, especially those of the paranormal variety. I must have the new one as soon as its out, the wait between books is excruciating and when it finally ends I mourn the closing of a series.
I recently began a series by S.M. Stirling called the Shadowspawn. I just finished reading the first two books in this series, A Taint in the Blood (2010) and The Council of Shadows (2011) and the third, Shadows of Falling Night, is set to come out May of this year. The main characters in this series are Adrian and Ellen. Adrian is a Shadowspawn, which is kind of a vampire meets werewolf meets shape shifter. If you are a fan of the supernatural I would recommend picking up this series.
My favorite series is the Anita Blake series by Laurell K. Hamilton. The 22nd book, Affliction, in this series is coming out in April. Anita Blake is many things but first and foremost is a vampire hunter. This series has it all: vampires, werewolves, necromancers, fellow vampire hunters, witches, fey, clairvoyants, and all the other were animals you could imagine. Whether you start with the first book and read them all or pick up anywhere in the series, this is definitely a series that is hard to break away from and one that I hope never ends.
My second favorite series is the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris made all the more popular by the True Blood series on HBO. Sookie Stackhouse is a telepathic waitress living in the small town of Bon Temps, Louisiana. Vampires have had their unveiling and are being acclimated into life of the living. Some vampires choose to main stream while others prefer to stick to their vampiric ways. Sookie meets Bill Compton, a vampire from the civil war era, who introduces her into a world she couldn’t have imagined. This series is also full of the paranormal. I am anticipate much mourning to come as the final book in the series, Dead Ever After, is coming out May of this year.
The final series that I am a huge fan of is the Dark Hunter series by Sherrilyn Kenyon. This series is also nice because it can be read in any order, I’ve bounced around in the order of these books and still enjoyed them all immensely. These novels are about Dark Hunters which are immortal warriors sworn to Artemis (the Greek goddess) and they defend humans against daimons (which are pretty much vampires except they take your soul as well as blood) and other various enemies. The 23rd book in this series, Styxx, is scheduled to come out later this year.
I spend a great deal of my time reading but everything gets set aside when one of my series has a new book. I even have it marked on my calendar when the next one is set to be released! What about you? Do you have any series that you are fans of? Let me know! I’m sure other readers would like to know, but also selfishly I can always use a new series to become addicted to.
