Co-Author Writing and Double-Signed Books

Article by John Hutchinson
October 18, 2017

Over 30 years ago, Stephen King teamed with Peter Straub to pen THE TALISMAN. It was a relative first in modern publishing for two bestselling authors to co-author a new work of fiction. Since then, it has become much more common. Clive Cussler has teamed with 10 different authors to write his numerous series. James Rollins has teamed with Rebecca Cantrell and Grant Blackwood. Blackwood has also written with Cussler and Tom Clancy. Other teams include scifi greats Kevin J. Anderson and Brian Herbert, Orson Scott Card and Aaron Johnston, and thriller greats, Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child.

Family writing teams include Clive Cussler and Dirk Cussler, Dick and Felix Francis, Jonathan, Faye and Jessie Kellerman, Mary Higgins and Carol Higgins Clark, and most recently Stephen and Owen King.

VJ Books has relationships with these writing teams and many others, and are pleased to have this category dedicated to Double-Signed Books. These special volumes add value to any collection.

If it’s April, it must be time for another Mary Higgins Clark book!

T.S. Eliot be damned.  April is a most kindly month for Mary Higgins Clark, the acknowledged grande dame of mysteries – Simon & Schuster has been successfully publishing Clark’s hardcovers and mass market reprints in April for many years.  Last year, for example, Where Are You Now?, Clark’s 32nd hardcover, landed atop our (Publisher’s Weekly)  list on April 21 (and ran for six weeks) that book’s mass market landed at #1 two weeks ago, on April 6.  Just take My Heart hits today’s list in second place, narrowly edged out by Jim Butcher.  Following local New York and New Jersey events, Clark took to the road on April 18 on an 11-city jaunt, traveling with daughter Carol Higgins Clark.  Look for the duo May 1 on Today.

Scribner signs Higgins Clark for 3-book deal

Simon & Schuster’s Scribner imprint has acquired three new books from Carol Higgins Clark, all mysteries featuring the author’s Regan Reilly character. Roz Lippel, associate publisher of Scribner, made the deal with ICM’s Esther Newberg and the books are planned to pub, conesecutively, in April 2010, 2011 and 2012. Cursed, Higgins Clarks’s 12th Regan Reilly mystery, also published by Scribner, bowed earlier this month.
