Press Release

VJ Books announces author James. W. Hall as Author of the Month with the release of his latest novel, “Dead Last”. To celebrate this event, VJ Books is discounting many of Hall’s signed and collectible novels.

Tualatin, Oregon, November 7, 2011 James W. Hall is the award-winning author of twelve novels, including his latest thriller, Dead Last. Dead Last, which Publishers Weekly is calling “compelling”, features the return of loner sleuth Daniel Thorn.

“Hall was one of the first authors to sign for us and we are always excited to receive his newest title,” reflects John Hutchinson of VJ Books. “Dead Last looks to be a classic Thorn mystery, full of edge of the chair suspense and Thorn’s edgy approach to events,” continued Hutchinson.

Dead Last by James W HallAbout the Book

Thorn gets involved with an obituary writer for the Miami Herald, (she’s an old flame) and through her Thorn becomes way too involved with a TV crime show being shot in Miami. TV stars, writers and directors can be very dark and twisted.

With the pacing of a thriller, and the lyrical prose for which Hall is renowned, this story pits Thorn against a killer—or killers—whose motives are as elusive as their identities.

About the Author

James was born (1947) in Kentucky but has lived most of his life in Florida. Originally a poet, he began writing crime fiction in the mid-1980s, publishing his first novel, Under Cover of Daylight, in 1986. Under Cover of Daylight is a murder mystery–starring a Key West fisherman named Thor–and was a well-received beginning to a popular series.

Besides the Thorn books, Hall has written stories and novels of life in South Florida, as well Hot Damn!,  a collection of essays.

Hall has earned the Shamus Award for the Thorn novel, Black Water Sound and an Edgar Award (Best Short Story Category) for The Catch.  Hall’s novels have been Book-of-the-Month and Literary Guild selections.

James W. Hall was a Fulbright professor of literature in Spain and is a professor of literature and writing at Florida International University. He and his wife Evelyn and their three dogs, Carrie, Stella and Maggie, divide their time between South Florida and the mountains of western North Carolina.
