About “Fallout” by Sara Paretsky
LEE CHILD says she’s “a genius.”
P.D. JAMES called her “the most remarkable” of today’s suspense writers.
STIEG LARSSON loved her work so much, he named her in his novels.
And now SARA PARETSKY returns with the most extraordinary novel of her legendary career: FALLOUT.
Before there was Lisbeth Salander, before there was Stephanie Plum, there was V.I. WARSHAWSKI. To her parents, she’s Victoria Iphigenia. To her friends, she’s Vic. But to clients seeking her talents as a detective, she’s V.I. And her new case will lead her from her native Chicago… and into Kansas, on the trail of a vanished film student and a faded Hollywood star.
Accompanied by her dog, V.I. tracks her quarry through a university town, across fields where missile silos once flourished — and into a past riven by long-simmering racial tensions, a past that holds the key to the crimes of the present. But as the mysteries stack up, so does the body count. And in this, her toughest case, not even V.I. is safe.
Exciting and provocative, fiercely intelligent and witty, FALLOUT is reading at its most enjoyable and powerful.

About “The Kept Woman” by Karin Slaughter
Husbands and wives. Mothers and daughters. The past and the future.
Secrets bind them. And secrets can destroy them.
The author of Pretty Girls returns with an electrifying, emotionally complex thriller that plunges its fascinating protagonist into the darkest depths of a mystery that just might destroy him.
With the discovery of a murder at an abandoned construction site, Will Trent of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation is brought in on a case that becomes much more dangerous when the dead man is identified as an ex-cop.
Studying the body, Sara Linton—the GBI’s newest medical examiner and Will’s lover—realizes that the extensive blood loss didn’t belong to the corpse. Sure enough, bloody footprints leading away from the scene indicate there is another victim—a woman—who has vanished . . . and who will die soon if she isn’t found.
Will is already compromised, because the site belongs to the city’s most popular citizen: a wealthy, powerful, and politically connected athlete protected by the world’s most expensive lawyers—a man who’s already gotten away with rape, despite Will’s exhaustive efforts to put him away. read more…

About “Razor Girl” by Carl Hiaasen
A lovable con woman and a disgraced detective team up to find a redneck reality TV star in this raucous and razor-sharp new novel from Carl Hiaasen, the bestselling author of Bad Monkey.
Merry Mansfield, the eponymous Razor Girl, specializes in kidnapping for the mob. Her preferred method is rear-ending her targets and asking them for a ride. Her latest mark is Martin Trebeaux, owner of a private beach renourishment company who has delivered substandard sand to a mob hotel. But there’s just one problem: Razor Girl hits the wrong guy. Instead, she ends up with Lane Coolman, talent manager for Buck Nance, the star of a reality TV show about a family of Cajun rooster farmers. Buck Nance, left to perform standup at a Key West bar without his handler, makes enough off-color jokes to incite a brawl, then flees for his life and vanishes.
Now a routine promotional appearance has become a missing persons case. And Andrew Yancy, disgraced detective-turned-health inspector, is on the job. That the Razor Girl may be the key to Yancy’s future will be as surprising to him as anything else he encounters along the way—including the giant Gambian pouched rats that are haunting his restaurant inspections.

At last, Helena Pelletier has the life she deserves. A loving husband, two beautiful daughters, a business that fills her days. Then she catches an emergency news announcement and realizes she was a fool to think she could ever leave her worst days behind her.
Helena has a secret: she is the product of an abduction. Her mother was kidnapped as a teenager by her father and kept in a remote cabin in the marshlands of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. No electricity, no heat, no running water, not a single human beyond the three of them. Helena, born two years after the abduction, loved her home in nature—fishing, tracking, hunting. And despite her father’s odd temperament and sometimes brutal behavior, she loved him, too…until she learned precisely how savage a person he could be.
More than twenty years later, she has buried her past so soundly that even her husband doesn’t know the truth. But now her father has killed two guards, escaped from prison, and disappeared into the marshland he knows better than anyone else in the world. The police commence a manhunt, but Helena knows they don’t stand a chance. Knows that only one person has the skills to find the survivalist the world calls the Marsh King—because only one person was ever trained by him: his daughter.
Praised by Lee Child and Karin Slaughter, and sure to thrill fans of The Girl on the Train and The Widow, The Marsh King’s Daughter is mesmerizing psychological suspense, the story of a woman who must risk everything to hunt down the dangerous man who shaped her past and threatens to steal her future: her father.

Forensic detective Lincoln Rhyme is back with his most harrowing case yet. A businessman is snatched from an Upper East Side street in broad daylight. A miniature hangman’s noose is left at the scene. A nine-year-old girl is the only witness to the crime. With a crime scene this puzzling, forensic expertise of the highest order is absolutely essential. Lincoln Rhyme and Amelia Sachs are called in to investigate.
Soon the case takes a stranger turn: a recording surfaces of the victim being slowly hanged, his desperate gasps the backdrop to an eerie piece of music.
Despite their best efforts, the suspect gets away. So when a similar kidnapping occurs on a dusty road outside Naples, Italy, Rhyme and Sachs don’t hesitate to rejoin the hunt.
But the search is now a complex case of international cooperation and not all those involved may be who they seem. Sachs and Rhyme find themselves playing a dangerous game, with lives all across the globe hanging in the balance.

THE FINAL DAY by William R. Fostchen
I was first introduced to William R. Forstchen with the books he co-authored with Newt
Gingrich. Together they produced the bestselling series of historical novels including VALLEY
FORGE, BATTLE OF THE CRATER and TO TRY MEN’S SOULS.
In 2009 Forstchen released ONE SECOND AFTER, a story of one man’s struggle to save his family
and his small North Carolina town after America is hit with a high altitude EMP that sends
America back to the dark ages. Months before publication, One Second After was cited on the
floor of Congress as a book all Americans should read, alerting us all to a real weapon, which if
used by an enemy could destroy the entire United States, literally within one second.
The book was an instant hit, and readers were eager to learn more about John Matherson and
the people of Black Mountain, N.C. In 2015 ONE YEAR AFTER begins one year after One Second
After ends, two years since nuclear weapons were detonated above the United States and
brought America to its knees. After months of suffering starvation, war, and countless deaths,
the survivors of Black Mountain, North Carolina, begin to recover some of the technology and
supplies they had once taken for granted, like electricity, communications, and medicine. When
a “federal administrator” arrives in a nearby city, they dare to hope that a new national
government is finally emerging. Matherson must lead his small town and his rag tag militia
against a ruthless federal administrator with plans of a hostile takeover of Black Mountain and
And now in the highly-anticipated follow-up, THE FINAL DAY returns us to Black Mountain, as
the people of this small community continue to rebuild after the EMP that destroyed the
country, killing millions and leaving the survivors in a dark world, filled with fear, hunger and
After defeating the illegitimate federal government, Matherson and his community have
returned to their task of restoring some of the technology they had taken for granted before
the EMP attack. He receives a cryptic message from his former commanding general and close
friend, and soon learns that he has been labeled a trouble maker by the new power elite base
in Bluemont, VA. The new federal government has deployed soldiers to seize control of the
surviving communities and to suppress rebellion.
General Bob Scales, Matherson’s old commanding officer has been tasked with bringing
Matherson in – dead or alive. As the story unwinds the power of friendship between the two
old warriors is tested as they discover some revealing truths about the new government and
the future of America.
THE FINAL DAY is an enthralling, action filled conclusion to the series. These post apocalyptic
thrillers clearly demonstrate how moral strength of character can lead us from the darkness.
Forstchen has created a story of warning that needed to be told, and he does so in a riveting,
entertaining, and thrilling manner.
Norwood Press is planning to create a special boxed set of William R. Forstchen’s trilogy. Titled
THE DAY, this three book set will include ONE SECOND AFTER, ONE YEAR AFTER, and THE FINAL
DAY. It will be housed in a custom slipcase designed to hold all three books. This special
edition will be extremely limited, so reserve your set today.

John Reviews “Gunmetal Gray” by Mark Greaney
GUNMETAL GRAY (a Grayman novel) by Mark Greaney
Review by John Hutchinson, VJ Books
When my daughter was a child of four she carried two stuffed animals with her wherever she went. One was Maui Bunny that arrived one Easter morning in Ka‘anapali, and the other was Forest the Bear – “Forest was a Chicago Bear, a Chicago Bear because he came from there.” She was soon to discover that in order pick anything else up she’d have to put one of the two down. So for quite awhile she passed by many new opportunities.
And so it goes with my reading preferences. My Maui Bunny and Forest the Bear are Bob Lee (Bob the Nailer) Swagger and Jack Reacher. Whenever Stephen Hunter or Lee Child release another chapter in these long running series, everything else is left sitting on the shelf.
Why am I telling you this?
I just think I may have to set one of them down and pickup someone new.
Who you ask?
Why, Court Gentry of course! None other than Mark Greaney’s Gray Man. After four successful outings, The Gray Man took a jump from paperback format to hardcover status with last year’s BACK BLAST, and returns again in GUNMETAL GRAY. Court Gentry is The Gray Man—disavowed by the CIA after a mission gone bad, Gentry has become a legend in the covert realm, quietly navigating the globe – from job to job. He tackles the tough assignments, accomplishes the impossible, and then slips away undetected. For years Gentry was marked with a kill order by the CIA, slipping through their numerous attempts to take him off the board. In BACK BLAST his reputation and place within the agency are restored as he uncovers how he went from the highest respected operative to the highest valued target.
In GUNMETAL GRAY Gentry takes on his first job since being restored to the agency. Now an operative-for-hire, he sets out to find Fan Jiang, a cyber expert, who has recently walked away from his Chinese handlers. His high stakes hunt takes Gentry across Southeast Asia to Hong Kong finding his old friend and boss, Donald Fitzroy being held hostage by the Chinese. Fitzroy has been hired by the Chinese to find Fan so that the Chinese can silence him before he aligns with the West. When Fitzroy’s first two agents disappear, Gentry is pulled in to finish the job, with Fitzroy’s life held in the balance. Racing against the clock, the Chinese and a Russian Special Forces team set on finding Fan first, Gentry faces his most challenging mission.
Mark Greaney’s is also known for the seven Jack Ryan novels he wrote working with Tom Clancy. Greaney recently announced that TRUE FAITH AND ALLEGIANCE (2016) is his last book for Clancy, as he will be focusing on the Gray Man franchise. Court Gentry will reappear next year in WEAPONIZED.
